FAQs

What is financial consulting?
Financial consulting, very simply, is the process of determining your current financial situation, identifying your financial goals, and establishing a program to pursue these goals.

What should you look for when selecting a financial professional?
Ask for recommendations. Advisors you trust, business associates, and friends may be able to recommend some people they know.

Interview several companies. Ask them to describe their backgrounds and specialty areas. Request references from current clients. In addition, ask if the professional has a current registration or a disclosure statement available that may contain detailed information regarding compensation, conflicts of interest, business affiliations, and personal qualifications.

Make sure you understand the services offered and the method of compensation. Request a written agreement or an engagement letter to document the nature and scope of the services the professional will provide. In addition, the professional should clearly explain how he or she expects to be compensated. Generally, compensation takes one of three forms: fees only, fees and commissions, or commissions only. We work with each client on an individual basis and will be happy to explain the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Evaluate your personal rapport. Several financial professionals may be equally competent. Select the one with whom you feel most comfortable.

What can you expect from the financial consulting process?
Personal financial consulting is the process of determining how individuals can pursue their life goals through proper management of their financial resources. This broad-based approach to financial strategies distinguishes financial professionals from others who typically focus on only one area of a person's financial life.
